Our Mission
The mission of The Perth and District Community Foundation is to work within the greater community in order to build a permanent fund to enrich the quality of life throughout the western half of Lanark County. The foundation encourages philanthropy and provides a focus for those who want to make a lasting contribution to their community.
The Foundation has been established in order to provide a vehicle which will:
-
assist donors in making community focused philanthropic decisions
-
receive and invest endowments in a permanent, professionally managed trust
-
utiilize the funds earnings to support a broad range of cummunity enrichment activities
-
be governed by a community appointed, local Board of Directors who serve as volunteers for a three year term
-
minimize administrative expenses
-
provide a long-term, permanent focus for benevolent work throughout our community ensuring a co-ordinated, integrated approach with other charitable organizations
-
provide grants in response to our community's greatest needs while maintaining and expanding the endowment fund for future generations
-
continue to work in close co-operation with similar foundations across Canada through our membership in the national organization, "Community Foundations of Canada".
Community Foundations of Canada
Community Foundations provide local citizens with the opportunity to make significant long lasting contributions to their own communities through the combined impact of numerous donations accumulating over time. Monies donated to the funds are invested by their Boards of Directors and the interest is used to fund worthwhile projects in the local community. The principal amount is not used for fund grants and so one's donations keep supporting the local community in perpetuity.
Public foundations were first established in the United States in 1919 and today there in excess of 160 foundations across Canada, including 39 in Ontario. For more information see Community Foundations of Canada.
