Press Release July 19, 2011
The Perth and District Community Foundation....Our Community.... Our Legacy
The Perth and District Community Foundation (PDCF) is celebrating its 10th Anniversary in 2011 - A Decade of Dedication. This will be a year of celebration of all that we have been able to give back to the communities we serve. Since its incorporation as a registered charity in 2001, the Perth and District Community Foundation has granted more than $170,000 to organizations in the fields of health, education, the environment, arts and culture, social development, seniors, youth and recreation.
At a presentation ceremony held February 17, 2011, PDCF awarded a record number of annual grants totalling $17,100 to twelve local charities. These grants supported local non profit and charitable organizations in Perth and Western Lanark County. Additionally, scholarships totalling $2,350 have been awarded to local students at PDCI and St. John’s High School. Bursaries totalling $2,700 have also been awarded to students attending the Perth Campus of Algonquin College through a partnership with the Algonquin College Foundation.
An additional $4,000 in grants has recently been awarded to several local charities including Lanark Highlands Youth Centre for their summer program, YAK for their Homeless Support Program for youth, Tay Valley Township for the Tay Valley Cross Country Ski Club’s youth development programs, the Perth and District Food Bank and Friendship Center to assist with furnishing their new facility, and Lanark County Therapeutic Riding Program to assist riders who would otherwise be unable to attend as they are without adequate financial means to participate in the programs.
The Foundation’s Board of Directors recognizes the continuing challenges faced by the non profit community. They know that charitable organizations have felt the effects of leaner budgets, increased needs, and decreased funding. The Foundation wants the community to know that we continue to be here as a strong voice, partner, funder, and advocate for philanthropy in Perth and the western half of Lanark County.
