October 1, 2009- Marketing Launch The Perth and District Community Foundation has officially launched its ‘new look’ promoting the organization’s mandate, service to the community and the spirit of giving by connecting people who care with causes that matter.
The Foundation was incorporated in 2001 as a non-profit registered Canadian charity governed by a community appointed board of directors. It is a member of the Community Foundations of Canada. Its Mission is to build a permanent trust fund to support community needs and enrich the quality of life for the citizens of Perth, Lanark Highlands, Tay Valley Township, and the Township of Drummond North Elmsley.
Gifts to the Foundation contribute to the wellbeing of the community and support important initiatives. It provides an everlasting contribution for future generations and honours the donor’s commitment to their community. It can also provide certain beneficial tax advantages to the donor.

TAX DEADLINES FOR 2009 CHARITABLE DONATIONS-December 31, 2009 The first $200 you donate is eligible for a federal tax credit of 15% of the donation amount. After the first $200, the federal tax credit increases to 29% of the amount over $200. Generally, you can claim all or part of this amount up to a limit of 75% of your net income. For gifts of certified cultural property or ecologically sensitive land, you may be able to claim up to 100% of your net income. In addition, you will generally be eligible for a provincial tax credit, which varies between provinces. There are three ways that you can maximize your tax credits for donations:
On May 2, 2006, the Conservative Government eliminated capital gains tax on donations of publicly listed securities to charities, effective immediately. Usually, one half of a capital gain is subject to tax; with gifts of publicly traded securities, that amount is eliminated when the gift is made to a charitable organization, a public foundation such as a community foundation or a private foundation. You should consult your own lawyer, accountant or other professional advisor about the applicability of this information to your situation. |
